Friends of the Library
-
The Friends of the Gary Byker Library of Hudsonville is a nonprofit organization with dedicated volunteers who help improve the quality of library service through:
- Intensifying community awareness and use of the library;
- Supplementing library equipment, materials and other items from funds raised by the Friends;
- Contributing volunteer help.
Funds raised by the Friends go directly back into the library in various ways. This has included books, computers, shelving, summer reading prizes, artwork, magazine subscriptions, furniture and more. All have been used to expand and to enrich the library experience and collections for the Hudsonville community.
The Friends currently support the library via the following volunteer efforts:
- Book Repair
- Each Monday at 12:30 pm, the Friends meet to mend and to repair books. This helps greatly in extending the life of the library's book collection.
- Used Book Sales
- The Friends sort and price books to keep the main floor used book sale area stocked throughout the year.
- In addition, the group continuously prepares items for larger sales, which are held at least three times a year.
- Set/up restoration of sale space, the sorting and staging of sale materials, and staffing of these larger book sales is also performed by the Friends members.
- Sales of gently used books through Amazon to raise additional funds is yet another valuable service facilitated by the Friends.
- Friends Present Series
- Through regular meetings the Friends plan and sponsor special library programs called the "Friends Present Series," which runs September through December and March through May.
- Friends members not only assist in the promotion of the series, they also serve as hosts for the individual programs in the series, setting up and restoring program spaces, greeting attendees, and providing refreshments.
Check out the library's Event Calendar for a full list of upcoming programs.
